When I saw this terrible news, I was in Vienna rehearsing for the West Side Story. The casts were all devastated with anger and in tears. Then, this terrorism turned into a personal nightmare, when I found out my high school friend and her family was aboard the first airplane crash. We cannot forget this tragedy. ウィーンでウェストサイドストーリーのリハーサル中に、この悲惨なニュースを聞きました。その場にいたキャスト全員が、怒りと悲しみで啞然としました。更に、ビルに直撃した一機目に、僕の高校時代の友人が家族と共に乗っていたと聞き、このテロリズムが個人的にも悲惨なものになりました。我々は、この悲惨な出来事を忘れてはいけない。911を二度と引き起こしてはいけない。手と手を取り合って、未来の為により強くなろう！

8月27日に、青森県三沢市で「震災復興チャリティコンサート」を行い、収益金を三沢漁業組合に寄付しました。コンサート後、漁業組合を訪れ、ニュースでは報道されていないものの三沢の漁港も被害が大きく、今も復興に向けて頑張っている事を知りました。
The ticket’s sales of the charity concert held on August 27th in Misawa, Aomori was donated directly to the Misawa Fisherman’s Association.
Without much media coverage, I was not aware of the intensity of the damage in the port, so close to my family’s residence.

津波で大部分の建物が崩壊し、残っているのはほんのわずか。海中の瓦礫撤去作業が急ピッチで進んで、9月には新しい定置網を設置出来るそうです。
Tsunami washed away much of the buildings around the port and the debris were washed into the sea. They are still using floating power shovels to scoop them out from the bottom of the sea port, something crucial for the fishing boats.

またまたアラスカに行ってきました！
今回は、東日本大震災の為の救済コンサートに出演です。
Another great trip to Alaska! This time for the Japan Relief Concert.

アラスカ、アンカレッジでも1964年にマグニチュード9強の大地震が発生しています。街の人達は心から日本の事を心配してくれています。そして、日本から遠いアラスカですが、そこに住む日本人の方達は何か出来ないかと心苦しい気持ちでみんな本当に心配してくれています。今回、皆がコンサートに参加してくれた事は本当に素晴らしい事だと思っています。
Anchorage, too, experienced a powerful magnitude 9 class earthquake in 1964 and the people are truly concerned of the current situation in Japan. Also, the Japanese community in Anchorage, living so far away from Japan are concerned, but didn’t know how to help out and they all felt bad. But, being able to attend and help the Japan Relief concert, which was truly a group effort, meant a lot for everyone!!

アラスカ大学から仙台に留学中の生徒が、今回の震災で亡くなってしまうという悲しい出来事もありました。
Unfortunate and sad news was that one of the former student at the University of Alaska, Anchorage passed away in the Tsunami. He moved to Japan to teach English and I was told he really loved Japan!

みんなが、それぞれの気持ちを抱きながら、今回の救済コンサートを開催しました。
コンサート最後は、アラスカ在住の子供たちと一緒に「翼を下さい」「故郷」「We are the world」を
歌いました。みんな、一生懸命日本語で歌ってくれました！
At the end of the concert, local children joined me to sing 3 songs, “Furusato”, “Tsubasa wo kudasai” and ” We are the world”. I was very amazed and I truly appreciate them for learning 2 songs in Japanese !!!!! BRAVO!!

このコンサートの収益金は、すべて日本赤十字社へ送金されます。
All profit and donation was sent to the Japan Red Cross.

大阪公演の翌日、都内のインターナショナルスクールの「夏祭り」に参加。先輩や後輩、沢山の友達が一カ所に集まり、雨の中、音楽にバベキュー！この会場での飲食代は、全て東北に送られました。頑張ろう、日本！

On the way home from Osaka, I dropped by NIshimachi International School for the NATSUMATSURI summer event. This time, it was a relief event for the Tohoku Earthquake/Tsunami. Lots of familiar faces gathered, despite the rain, and we enjoyed a day of music and barbeque.

6月6日、小錦さんの東日本大震災の支援イベントに参加。
コニちゃんの歌、美しいフラダンスの皆さん、ハワイアンな夜を満喫しました。
僕も一曲だけ参加させて頂き、本当に楽しかったです。

A great event by an awesome man!
I had a great time joining this Hawaiian event, which was a night of Koni-chan’s songs and beautiful hula dancers. I joined in for one song and I wish the night went longer!
He is a man of a big heart and he has done so much already. Bravo!!!

三井倶楽部にて開催されていた「ダニエル・オスト展」に行ってきました。各お部屋、階段やお庭に至るまで、全て「フラワーアレンジメント」で飾られていました。

I attended the renowned flower arranger, Mr. Daniel Ost’s exhibition at the Mitsui Club.  Every room, stairways and the garden of the mansion was decorated by his flower creation.
A true artist.

25日には、東日本大震災チャリティイベントが開催され、オスト氏のスピーチの後、サプライズゲストとして歌いました。ブーケは、ダニエル・オスト氏が作って下さり、直々に頂きました。

For his earthquake/tsunami relief charity event on the 25th, I was invited as the surprise guest and was able to contribute a touch of music to the occasion. As a gift, he made these beautiful bouquet for myself and my pianist, Yuko Ishikawa.

26日のイベントには、オペラ愛好家の世界的デザイナーであるコシノジュンコ先生も会場にいらっしゃってました。
An opera lover and a renowned fashion desinger, Junko Koshino attended this event as a guest, too.

最後は　ダニエル・オスト氏と、「Time to say goodbye」を熱唱！
To close the event, I sang the duet, ” Time to say goodbye ” with Mr. Daniel Ost himself!

東京アメリカンクラブにて、チャリティイベントが開催され出演しました。
アメリカ大使ご夫妻、小錦さん、宮城県経済商工観光部の方等、様々な方が列席されました。収益金は、東北へ送られます。

I sang for the charity event held by Tokyo American Club.
U.S.Ambassador Roos, Konishiki, Miyagi Prefectural Government personnel were few of the many guests for the evening.
All profit will be donated for Tohoku.

橋幸夫さん、ジュディ・オングさん、山本リンダさん、
金沢明子さん、清水アキラさんと共に、宮城県岩沼市、名取市、南三陸町に行ってきました。
1日目は3カ所、2日目は4カ所の避難所を訪れ、歌と笑いを届けました。
I went to 3 cities in Miyagi Prefecture and visited 7 evacuation sites  with 5 other Japanese singers to bring people music and laughter.

橋幸夫さんの「盆ダンス」を皆で練習しました。
We practiced Mr. Hashi’s famous “Bon Dance” routine.

避難所が中学校なので、休み時間に子供達も遊びに来てくれました。
They had to use a junior high school as one of the evacuation site, so during the lunch break, students came to greet us.

南三陸町にあるファミリーマートの駐車場で、震災直後から
炊き出しが自発的にスタートし、今も続いています。
Right after the earthquake, volunteer groups has been using the parking lots of various convenient stores to supply food, massage  and water. Bravo!

各会場で、皆で持って来たお菓子、Tシャツ等の衣類をお渡ししました。
We were also glad to be able to bring them chocolate snacks, T shirts, toothbrushes, wet wipes, etc.

March 11th, 2011, an unbelievable tragedy hit Japan. As I was driving, I noticed every building and electric poles were swinging in every direction. Water started to spit out of the main street, too. I have experienced the big earthquakes in Los Angeles and in Kobe, and I knew and felt that this was a serious quake. I lost contact with my family in northern Japan for two days. I am so grateful that they are all safe. My family and friends in Tokyo are undergoing major stress, but we are all safe. I hope everyone who experienced the shake is well and safe. We are having deep concern with the nuclear plant in Fukushima. I am hoping for a minimum damage. Japan will be facing serious restoration for months and years to come. PLEASE, everyone, be strong, be calm and help each other. For people living up north in this cold weather without shelter, without food or water, without electricity, please be strong. Everyone is praying and making action to help you. I know you are devastated and feeling hopeless, but please BELIEVE. The world is helping each and every one of you!!  I promise I will do whatever I can to help through music.

3月11日、2011年、日本に大地震／津波が起き、信じられない事態に陥っています。
発生時、私は運転をしていて、ビルや電柱の揺れを見て止まりました。道路からは水が吹き出し、ロスと阪神淡路大震災を経験をしていたので、その揺れが深刻な物だと直感しました。
東北に住む家族とはほぼ2日間連絡が途絶えました。今は家族が安全だと言う事に感謝しています。東京の家族も友達も皆安全です。
これからストレスも多くなると思いますが、地震を経験した人達が皆、安全で元気な事を祈っています。
福島の原発の事も心配です。最小限のダメージで留まる事を祈っています。
日本は、これから何ヶ月も何年も復興に追われます。皆さん、どうか心を強く持ち、冷静に、お互いを助け合って下さい。
被災地の皆さん！寒い中、食べ物、飲み物、電気や暖房の無い中、心を強く持って下さい。
皆さんの為に、祈って行動をしている人が沢山います。絶望しないで希望を持ってください。信じて下さい！
世界が、皆さん一人一人の為に動いています。私も、自分の出来る限り音楽を通して、心のケアとサポートの為に頑張ります！
